The Galapagos archipelago is located 972 kilometers west of the continental territory of Ecuador.
There are 14 main islands and 20 islets. The Galapagos province has 17,000 inhabitants. The total area of the islands is a little more than 8,000 square kilometers, divided into 3 cantons.

The Galapagos archipelago was declared a World Natural Heritage Site in 1978 and has unique flora and fauna in the world.
